ALEXX THOMPSON, The Poet
Poetry Review: POEMS BY ALEXX THOMPSON, centralelements.com/alexxthompson

When was the last time you read poetry? Truly, when was the last time you sat down and treated your brain to a literary feast of words rich with emotion and imagery? If the answer is college/high school, there’s a good chance you haven’t indulged your soul in the world of verse in some time, at least in that which was not part of an obligatory reading requirement. Indeed, if such is the case, you may be somewhat oblivious to the life pulse of humanity known as the contemporary poet. Yes, they walk among us… and continue to capture their thoughts onto pages shared with the world-at-large so that we, the readers, may recognize our own feelings the poet so graciously put into words that reach right off the page to touch one’s heart and stimulate the mind.
World, meet Alexx Thompson, contemporary poet-at-large.
I’ve recently published a review of Mr. Thompson’s music videos & film work (see 6/16/10), but felt his poetry warranted separate attention.
While Alexx Thompson’s poetry is imbued with dark, political, and sometimes cynical overtones, it never fails to draw the reader into Thompson’s world to see what he sees, hear what he hears, and feel what he feels. So, it seems this poet has achieved all that one could hope to achieve through poetry.
After reading Thompson’s work, at times even I–a standoffish chimp–felt like giving humanity a hug so as to say, “everything is going to be alright” if only to ease my own inner conflict that Thompson’s poetic voice no doubt cajoled from my subconscious mind.
Take the time to check your head, heart and soul. Read poetry. You might find contemporary poets such as Alexx Thompson resonate with you more than you expect.
If you don’t have time to read all of his work online, my favorites are:
